Background
In the world’s current environment, various economic, political, social and cultural transformations have been taking place, which have given birth to new models of relations between institutions, markets, organizations and society.
In the framework of current trends, there has been interest from organizations and the society as a whole, resulting in multiple efforts for the fulfilment of the common objectives.
In the specific case of Mozambique, this trend is even bigger taking into account that the central objective of the Government to combat poverty and strengthen the self-esteem of the Mozambicans through the convergence of economic and social goals.
The current economic, political, social and cultural transformations become determinants in the new business environment, thus prompting the emergence of new models within the organizations and increasing the standards of living of stakeholders and preservation of the planet. These organizations apply a theory called SOCIAL RESPONSBILITY.
In the case of LAM, over the years the company has continually been developing a package of social investments, social support actions and philanthropic activities, in a non systematized way, for diverse entities and organizations.

In terms of external actions, LAM has actively participated in support of sports and culture, which have deserved special attention from the airline company for their powerful promotion of tourism.
Over the past 28 years, LAM has internally developed social assistance activities for its employees and relatives, by way of social benefits of air transport facilities for employees and their relatives, medical assistance inside the country and abroad, and support in the acquisition of school materials for children.
An essential aspect which has deserved special attention is the continuous training of employees. As part of this, LAM has trained pilots, on-board assistants, mechanics, managers and other aeronautical specialists, so it can be said that the commercial civil aviation industry in the country is due to the commitment of the national airline company with training and upgrading of its employees.
Communication with the employees also constitutes an important factor of “socialization” and sharing of ideas and opinions. To facilitate this, the company implemented an INTRANET network in order to create a greater interactivity between its employees. Also, LAM has a quarterly informative bulletin and a magazine that is published every four months, which informs the employees and their families on the life of the company as a whole, thus strengthening the spirit of cohesion within the organization.

To acknowledge the role of employees in the success of the company, LAM recognizes their merits by holding a ceremony to award 20, 25 and 30 years or more of service with a bronze, silver and gold medal, respectively. This ceremony always takes place on the 14th of May, the day in which the current LAM – Mozambique Airlines was constituted.
