Management Practices
LAM assumes that the central focus in its strategy of social responsibility centers on the internal level, which is defined in the Style of Life Program or “Programa Estilo de Vida”.
The program “Estilo de Vida” has the objective to improve the quality of living of the employees of the company both inside and outside the working environment. Through the program and internal communication channels, several actions and campaigns are promoted throughout the year, with focus on the prevention of HIV-AIDS, the promotion of health, development of life abilities, greater integration between the family, the employee and the company, and safety at the work place. The program is divided into four dimensions that integrate a series of actions:
I – PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH: Action focused on the prevention and treatment of diseases, with particular attention to issues related to HIV-AIDS, malaria and other relevant diseases.
II – CULTURE AND PLEASURE: Initiatives that generate opportunities that contribute to the expansion of relations, encouraging inclusion, social and family cohabitation based on the recognition of how important each individual is in the life of people. The initiatives stimulate the expression and development of social competences to compliment professional ones.
III – WORKING ENVIRONMENT: creation of a safe environment so all employees feel comfortable, as well as maintaining safe equipment handling conditions.
IV – COMPETENCE CAPACITY BUILDING AND DEVELOPMENT: creation of conditions for basic capacity building in computing and English, as well as higher training in aeronautic and management issues excluding volunteering and citizenship actions.
LAM understands that its main objective is not to directly administrate projects geared to the satisfaction of the community. However, in the specific areas that interest both the company and community, LAM undertakes direct administration with focus on the HIV-AIDS prevention project, and on the Project Learning by Doing “ Aprender Fazendo” through practice activities for students at universities, polytechnic institutes and professional technical schools.
LAM believes that good sustainable practices require dialogue and business related actions that can cause a social and environmental impact.
In this context, in addition to monitoring its own operations, LAM also considers relevant aspects of its production cycle, in particular with the management of the residue used in the maintenance its aircraft. It also encourages its employees to save and recycle paper to reduce costs and help preserve the environment. Likewise, in its relations with suppliers and partners, LAM establishes dialogue channels and processes in these areas. The evaluation criteria for its suppliers, LAM includes not only their technical capacity and administrative efficiency, but its congruence with the company values based on transparency, efficiency, sustainability and cost efficiency.
In order to facilitate and strengthen dialogue, as well as to give greater transparency in its relationship with customers, LAM establishes agreements on the standards of service delivery and follows up on auditing and evaluation within the framework of the procedures established by the ISO9001:2000 certification and the IOSA – IATA operational and Safety Audit, according to the provisions of LAM’s Quality Policy.
