Unaccompanied Minors (UM)

General
An unaccompanied minor is a child between 5 and 11 years of age (inclusive), who is travelling in a passenger seat and is not escorted by another passenger of 12 years of age or above.

Note 1: Minors aged between 12 months and 4 years old (inclusive), cannot be accepted without an escort, unless an additional attendant is named (cabin crew or ground employee), with an additional surcharge payment.

Note 2: LAM employees are not allowed to reach any agreement with other passengers or act in a way so as to provide children with an escort during the trip.

Note 3: Minors aged less than 12 months cannot be accepted as an accompanied minor (UM).

Acceptance
In order to accept unaccompanied minors for transportation, the following rules must be observed:

  1. Minors must be escorted to the departure airport by their father, mother, guardian or person responsible who must remain at the terminal/check-in areas until the aircraft takes off.
  2. At the destination airport, staff on duty shall, escort the UM to meet the persons named on the "Unaccompanied Minor Assistance Advice” form.

Stopover and/or Night-Stop
Stopovers and/or night-stops are not allowed, except when there is a person responsible present, having been previously designated by the departure attendant, and who will wait at the transfer station, taking care of UM until they are handed over to LAM to proceed on their journey.

If the UM is escorted by a LAM employee, proceed according to the conditions described in previous paragraph.

Note 1: All UM and attendant expenses will be charged to the person responsible for UM acceptance/embarkation.

Interline Connections with Other Carriers
Stopovers and/or night-stops are not allowed, except when there is a person responsible present, having been previously designated by the departure attendant, and who will wait at the transfer station, taking care of UM until they are handed over to the subsequent Carrier. Note: LAM employees are not allowed to escort UM aboard other Carrier's aircraft.

Interline Connections from Other Carriers to LAM
Whenever LAM acts as a "Receiving Carrier", boarding will be considered as local, and the rules set out must be followed.

Note: It is not necessary to issue the "Unaccompanied Minor Assistance Advice" form, as long as the "Delivering Carrier" shows a similar form that grants UM acceptance.
