LAM Re-elected Chair of AASA

The 43rd Annual General Assembly of AASA (Airlines Association of Southern Africa), of which LAM-Mozambique Airlines is an active member, took place in October 2013, in Cape Town, South Africa.

The meeting was chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of LAM-Mozambique Airlines, Dr Marlene Manave, and was honoured by the presence of the South African Minister of Tourism, Marthinus Van Schalkwyk and the Deputy Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga.

In her address welcoming the dignitaries and participants at the Annual General Assembly of AASA, Marlene Manave stressed the importance of the theme of the meeting "The Global Impact of Competitiveness in Africa", as well as the challenges that the aviation industry is facing both in the region and globally.

LAM also participated at the Annual General Assembly of AASA through the presence of Marlene Manave on the panel of CEOs of the most prominent airlines of the region, which discussed the theme: "What advantages can African airlines take from the opportunities which are today presented to the African continent as a growing global market?"

During the panel, moderated by a recognized political commentator and analyst, LAM was mentioned on several occasions as a profitable company and an example of success, contradicting the argument that African national air companies all run at a loss.

Taking into account the need for greater cooperation among African air companies in responding to the challenges imposed by international competition from the “mega companies”, Marlene Manave contributed by transmitting LAM’s experience in the areas of management and cooperation with partners and all stakeholders in the civil aviation business.

The Annual General Assembly ended with the election of the Chairperson of the Association, and Dr Marlene Manave was re-elected to the position for the second year running.
