Captain Mohomed Hanif conducts farewell fligth

The end of a cycle! It was a touchdown on the runway with the sense of mission accomplished when Captain Mohomed Hanif landed the Boeing 737-700 aircraft at Maputo International Airport on 24 June, 2020, on what was his last flight.

To say goodbye to the skies on commercial flights, the retired Captain started the aircraft’s engines early morning in Maputo, from where he left at 6h05 am, bound for Nampula, and then to Quelimane. From this city, he helmed the last flight - TM 1140 - to Maputo, where he arrived at 12 pm.

As soon as he disembarked, he was surprised by LAM’s management, coworkers, and family members, who headed to the airport to witness the unique moment of this professional, whose career in aviation began in 1977. Throughout his career, he piloted several models of Boeing, DC10s, Fokker 100s, and Embraer 190s. He retired in 2012, having been rehired immediately after. In this period dedicated to aviation, he clocked more than 24,500 flight hours.

Before leaving the airport, he was recognized by the Chairman of the  Board of Directors at IACM - Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique, Captain João Abreu.

The act included other captains who also retired, namely: Bernardo Polana, Samuel Ngomane, Álvaro Lobo, José Fernandes, Pedro Simões, Francisco Miranda, Abel Chambal and Carlos Soares Júnior. To all of them, LAM thanks you immensely and wishes you happiness and success in life.
