Deteriorative Cargo

Deteriorative cargo is cargo that is subject to deterioration or depreciation due to time factors and/or unfavorable environmental conditions.

Examples of deteriorative products are but are not limited to: cakes, flowers or bulbs, shellfish, fish, (fresh or congealed), meat (fresh or congealed), fresh vegetables, chocolates, fruit, dairy products, congealed products, serums and vaccines, and eggs.

Acceptance

Deteriorative cargo can be accepted for transport if:

  • It is adequately packaged to prevent damage of other shipments
  • Its transport is not part of a mixed shipment
  • The shipment could be rejected if it shows signs of deterioration at the time of acceptance

Documents

The following documents are required for the transport of perishable goods:

  • Fito-sanitary certificate for plants including flowers
  • Veterinary certificate issued by veterinary services for meat, fish and shellfish

These certificates must accompany the shipment and be attached to the Airway Bill sent to the final destination of the shipment.

Reservation

  • All deteriorative shipments are subject to reservation of cargo space
  • If the shipment is transported by carriers other than LAM, cargo space must also be reserved on them
  • Deteriorative shipments are accepted only when the reservation is confirmed for the entire transport from origin to destination
